HAPPY SEAFARERS DAY; Message from Capt. Erik Freberg Blom
The world celebrates the day of seafarer in honor to the indispensable services of the men and women whose work is far beyond ordinary and with extraordinary circumstances. The Norwegian Training Center - Manila salutes all the great seafarers in the world.
As NTC-M plays a vital role in producing world class seafarers through our cadet programs; the NSA Philippines Cadet Program and the Electro Technical Officer Training Program, let us be reminded that quality maritime training forms part and a strong foundation of the seafarers to perform their duties on-board with great precision and safety.
The need for quality maritime training has long been recognized not only in the Philippines but in the world, therefore it should be part of the highest mandate in seafaring as a whole. And the fact that 80 to 90 % of maritime accidents are associated to human errors, quality training above others must be on top of the demands of shipping industries. And despite the technological advancement and automation, training of seafarers is still crucial and mandatory.
Along the way, the industry might have been diverted their focus to business profit and cost efficiency measures. And when economic analysis focus more on cost, training of the seafarers are often sacrificed without realizing the significance of highly competent human resources at sea. In the same manner, training centers that are business oriented have lost its mandate to provide quality training. Only when accidents happen, quality training then becomes the highest demand.
While a lot of training centers sell certificate, we sell quality. We are often referred as one of the costly maritime training centers in the Philippines; and yes our training fees are not the cheapest ones but they are reasonable. Because we invest on facilities, we hire high-caliber instructors and equip them with timely and consistent training to uphold their competence in their field, we strictly follow instructor-student ratio even without written regulations and government agencies monitoring it. We maintain our systematic and structured training methodologies to sustain the quality of seafarers trained and produced by NTC-M.
At the end of the day, we are happy to serve and deliver the required quality training by our clients, principals, NSA and non-NSA members.
To date, our Electro Technical Officer Training program has gain its ground as the industry appreciate how the quality training we made for electro cadets have paid off in the long run. We have trained 449 electro cadets in 20 batches since 2006. And majority of them are highly recognized by their respective principals, giving us good and overwhelming feedback on their performance. As per one of our principals, they are the most sought-after electro technical officers nowadays.
Come July 21, Batch 21 will culminate with 22 new cadets bound to rigid electro technical training and enhancement at NTC-M.
And now that seafaring remains to be an interesting and rewarding profession, NTC-M will also remain true to the value of quality maritime training. Happy seafarers day!
Best regards!
