NTC-M's 2nd WELDING FORUM ANSWERS CERTIFICATION DILEMMA

The 2nd Welding Forum conducted in August 7, 2014 was well attended by partners, manning agencies, NSA and non-NSA members who have been patronizing NTC-M's welding courses and its penchant for quality welders' training.

Mr. Sam Cunanan, NTC-M's Head of Welding section facilitated the forum. He presented different welding positions, identified the challenges that confront fitters / welders in engaging the system and addressed the challenges on the certification process.

It has been a long and fruitful discussion and the group has stressed out that they look at NTC-M not as a testing center for their welders but a partner that will guide them to be DNV certified.

On the forum it has been agreed that NTC-M in support to its valued clients and their welding participants shall extend a hands-on monitoring of their practice and an immediate action to correct the fault done by the welder. This  way, it can be corrected right away  during the practice. The forum attendees on the other hand encouraged NTC-M to provide competence guide for fitters to guide them while practicing on-board.

Before the forum ends, the group has come up with a more comprehensive plans to bridge the competence gaps, a detailed courses of action to have the welders certified by the DNV.  2G and 3G Welder's Certification were agreed as options for NTC-M to conduct to address lower requirements for certification  of welders as highly demanded by attendees of the forum.

To date NTC-M has submitted  2G and 3G procedure qualifications to DNV, and is now canvassing materials and collating manufacturer's certificate for MIRDC test. Updates will be cascaded to all concerned.
