NEW COURSE - SPM WITH SHIP MANEUVERING & HANDLING
A new course at NTC-M intended for Masters & Deck Officers engaged in Single Point Mooring (SPM) operation is set to be offered starting this October 2014.
The course, with the descriptive title Single Point Mooring with Ship Maneuvering & Handling, provides theoretical and practical training on the operation and safe approach of Single Point Mooring buoys. The focus of lessons & instruction covers review of ship handling principles and SPM operational procedures as recommended by the OCIMF; while the practical training consists of simulation exercises with extensive use of a full mission bridge simulator.
The training duration is five (5) days covering the following subject/training areas:
I. Review of Ship Handling Principles
II. SPM Operational Procedures (OCIMF Guides)
• Preparations for berthing; Mooring; Unmooring; Safety; Pollution
• Safety Checklists
III. Simulation Exercises utilizing different ship models focusing on:
• Various maneuvers in open and confined waters
• Exercises with use of main engines, thrusters and tugs
• Obtaining original data for turning circles, crash stop, and man overboard
recovery
• SPM docking and undocking maneuvers, anchoring, and picking up pilots
